Informational Text-Drawing Out What We See-Taking Notes-Reading Transaction in Action
Here are some pics of student work. The students brought out TFK articles. They ranked what they wanted to read by previewing and explaining the order. They then wrote down the features that drew them in. Then they read slowly so as to understand and sketched out what they understood, as they read. They snapped the pics. As Dr. Joyce Carroll says, "The brain loves color!" So I got out all my markers, pens and colored index cards and went to town! They loved using whatever they chose. Here's what they produced:
