Express Yourself

Be who you are and say how you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

You Don't Know Me 2013

You Don't Know Me

This is the beginning of a poem that I have been working on and off but mostly off the last few weeks.  I am going to get it down so that later I can come back and work on it more. I spoke to a dear friend the other day and she asked me how this poem was going.  I said, "Going but not gone!"  So in her honor, I shall start it tonight.  It's not finished, by no stretch of the imagination.  Is any work, ever completely finished?  No, more like this one is a slab of concrete starting to dry.

You Don't Know Me

By Maureen Ucles

You don' t know me
never could
You don't know me
never would
Don't you
even try
or question why
Never would you
walk a mile or more
into my parts
Forget about it
In my low, low, lowly caste,
world or vicinity
Please!
Never would you even
stride
where I reside
Not you

Na!
Nope!
You don't know me
Don't get me
in the least
never ever could
not with your
nose protruding into the atmosphere
soaring to the stratosphere
where you float and
blov-i-ate
among the noxious clouds
over Houston

You don't know me
never would
no inclination
descending, descending,
into the abyss
That would
not do
particularly for you
out of reach
far from reality
promising perspectives plagiarized
just out and out lies
sort of vandalized
spat on
emanating from you
with your daunting, disgusting
pithy, pitying and pathetic
attitude
EWWW!

You don't know me
but
I just might reside
 in the recesses
of your mind
Quite possibly
I would be
a mere gnat
in your face
for you to swat away
"Now go on!
Know your place
Go off and just play!"
To you
I am
Another anxious asinine ion
that you attempt to squash
with your tortuous titanium stilettos
Trying to glide
over and over and over
into oblivion
well
ostracized no more
I am
and
will be
You see
You don't know me
'cause
You've got me
typecast
downtrodden
forgotten....
No more
Uh-hah

See
You don't know me
the me
who fights
battles
survives
grasps
the distant
light
illuminating
the path
I am
dealt
slowly
lifting
myself

Know me?
KNOW ME
I am
the Phoenix
who rises
lives to see
another day
take another breath
as
embers smoldering
holding
onto to some
semblance of
existence

Me?
ME
refined
refreshed
reborn
renewed
determined

Me
catch a glimpse
know
the one
who rises
and shines
through multi-
colored prisms
and other people's eyes
that me
redeemed
through time
time,
time,
time

One day soon
You will
know
know me
ME
It is better - I agree. And it was wonderful in the beginning. You have such a talent, and it is beautiful to see/hear/feel you use it.
